Tourism Zapping “Smart Tourism Destinations: The Case of the Alentejo Destination”

The Tourism Zapping initiative consists of a series of conversations with researchers and professionals from the public, private, and associative sectors of tourism, with the goal of sharing with the entire academic community of the University of Évora emerging, contemporary, and relevant topics related to research and projects developed in the field of tourism.
In its first edition, the Tourism Zapping series includes five sessions (“Zaps”), with the first focusing on SMART Tourism Destinations. In this session, in addition to discussing the concept, the case study of a project developed by a group of researchers from CIDEHUS and the HPC Chair of the University of Évora will be presented — specifically, the creation of an intelligent platform for monitoring sustainable tourism in the Alentejo region (PISTA Digital).
It is worth noting that this platform supports the monitoring work carried out by the Alentejo Sustainable Tourism Observatory (ASTO), a structure based at the University of Évora and part of the INSTO/UNWTO – International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories of the World Tourism Organization (a specialized agency of the United Nations). The scientific coordination of ASTO is led by a team of researchers from CIDEHUS.UÉ and the HPC Chair.
