Launch of the book “Legislative elections in Alentejo during the First Republic (1910-1926)”

In this book, its authors sought to “portray” in detail the legislative elections in the First Republic (1910-1926) in the six districts of Alentejo (Portalegre, Elvas, Estremoz, Évora, Beja and Aljustrel).

After analyzing the electoral legislation and the political context in which the vote took place, its various stages and contingencies are addressed, namely the choice of candidates, the electoral campaign, clientelism, agreements, fraud and other irregularities.
In quantitative terms (and not only), this study makes a comparison with others that preceded it, presenting new and definitive data for some elections. Before the general tables and the conclusion, the social and political profile of the deputies elected in Alentejo during the First Republic is analyzed.
This book was prepared within the scope of CIDEHUS / University of Évora and financed through funds from FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology.
