CIDEHUS brings together a set of infrastructures designed to enhance research and generate the dissemination and transfer of knowledge.

UNESCO Chair in Intangible Heritage and Traditional Know-How: Linking Heritage

The Chair’s mission is to research, protect and safeguard intangible cultural heritage, recognizing its importance for the identity of communities. Aligned with UNESCO principles, it aims to strengthen international cooperation, especially with the Global South and developing countries in Africa, South America and the Mediterranean, promoting network training and education actions. It seeks, through its actions, to value cultural diversity, encourage intercultural dialogue and integrate intangible cultural heritage into sustainable development strategies.

Chair in Iberian Studies
Responsible: Antonio Sáez Delgado

The Chair of Iberian Studies at the University of Évora aims to develop scientific knowledge about the cultures of the Iberian peninsula. Unique in the region, it focuses on research and dissemination through events, publications and networking. It has support from the Junta de Extremadura, El Corte Inglés and the Coordination and Development Commission of the Alentejo Region.

DemoLab - Demography Laboratory
Coordination: Lídia Tomé

From an interdisciplinary perspective, the Demography Laboratory promotes international-level research, addressing global issues that impact population dynamics. Its main objective is to evaluate social changes and transformations and analyze the specificities of demographic dynamics in rural areas of the South. In order to share the results of demographic projections with the scientific community and society, DemoLab publishes a bulletin – Population News – and develops research in collaboration with the LifeSpan Chair and the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research.

ChronosLab - CIDEHUS Digital Humanities Laboratory

The CIDEHUS Digital Humanities Laboratory brings together researchers from this center who are dedicated to the study of HD, covering different areas of human and social sciences, arts and letters. The team conducts research at the intersection of computing and the humanities, in a transdisciplinary and collaborative way. Integrating digital tools and methods, CHRONOS HDLab explores new approaches to knowledge production, while adopting a critical stance towards the impact of digital on cultural heritage and culture in general.

ASTO - Alentejo Sustainable Tourism Observatory
Coordination: Maria do Rosário Borges and Jaime Serra

The Alentejo Sustainable Tourism Observatory aims to monitor the evolution of sustainable tourism development in the Alentejo, assuming the production of information as fundamental capital for the training of tourism agents in the destination and for the development of the Research & Development of the region where it is located. It results from a partnership between the Regional Tourism Entity of Alentejo/Ribatejo and the University of Évora. It is part of the INSTO-UNWTO network – International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories, led by the WTO – World Tourism Organization.
