Heritage(s) and Literacies
Coordination: Paulo Batista
Keywords: Technical and industrial heritage; Intangible cultural heritage; Museology; Archives and libraries
G2 analyzes how cultural heritage expresses diversity in the South and the multiple interpretations that result from its reading. In addition to the study of cultural goods and artefacts, the group generates knowledge and critical reflection on the uses of heritage and patrimonialization processes, approaching societal changes from different perspectives (cultural, social, economic, environmental, technological). Covering material, immaterial and textual heritage, the group’s research is consolidated in multiple dimensions of heritage: industrial and technical, including infrastructures (electricity network, gas, water supply, ports, railways); architectural and archaeological; rural and productive landscapes; religious; linguistic; intangible cultural heritage (ICH) and traditional know-how. G2’s research is closely linked to the territory at different levels, which reinforces networks, partnerships and collaboration programs with memory institutions, especially museums. It addresses literacy through information sciences, recognizing libraries and archives as vital channels for the transmission of heritage and as crucial sources of information for the knowledge society.
