The Center
Welcome to CIDEHUS!
Established in 1994, the Interdisciplinary Center for History, Cultures and Societies (CIDEHUS) is a research unit in the History and Social Sciences fields.
Favoring a comparative approach, crossed paths, and interdisciplinary applied knowledge, the Center’s program focuses on a very current problem, with strong roots in the past: diversity and long-term changes in the South. The latter is defined in a relational and polysemic way. It covers not only Portugal as a political unit of the Iberian Peninsula, but also the Mediterranean and areas of the southern hemisphere historically associated with Portugal.
CIDEHUS is headquartered at the University of Évora (UÉ) and currently includes a unit at the Autonomous University of Lisbon (UAL).
Funded by FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology), CIDEHUS obtained a “Excellent” rating in the last evaluation (2023-2024).
