: Formerly, full professor in History of Architecture at the IUAV (Venice). Member of the board in the joint Ph.D. programme of-University of Ca’ Foscari in “History of Arts”. Member of the board of the international TPTI master as a part of the “Erasmus Mundus” European Programme of Education in association with Université Paris 1-Panthèon, Universidade de Evora, Università di Padova.

: Born in Modena (1950). Graduated in Architecture first at Politecnico of Milan (1969-75), then at the, Princeton University, USA (1976-77) getting a Master of Arts on Architecture and Urban History.
Teaching jobs and appointments
(Until October 2020) full professor in History of Architecture and Urban History at the IUAV (Venice) from November 2000 to today, doing class also at the University of Padua (“History of Techniques”) and at the Venice International University (“Architectural History of Venice”), He has also taught in the 1990,s at the Politecnico di Milano and at the University of Udine, and has been visiting professor at the and the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes in Paris, University of Edinburgh, Fudan University in Shanghai, and CUJAE of La Habana. Lectures done also in Athens, Duke University (USA), Brasilia, Evora, Goiania (Brazil), Granada, Helsinki, Leuven, Lyon, Madrid, Paris, Philadelphia, Salvador de Bahia, Sao Paulo, Seoul, Stockholm, Zurich.
Appointments and jobs in extra-Academic fields
: President of the Ateneo Veneto from January 2013.to December 2017. President of the Italian Society for Urban History (AISU) from September 2007 to September 2013. Co-leader in three main sessions of symposiums held by the European Association of Urban History: Venice 1998, Edinburgh 2002, Athens 2004.
Major fields of interest
: Architecture and Urban History mainly focused on Italy about the 19.th and the 20.th centuries. Author of various publications in Italian, such as the book on national town planning bodies at the turn of the century. The problem has been also taken in a broader perspective, concerning in particular 19.th century urban centres. Pivotal figures of architecture and urban planning have been described in some books and articles. Venetian architecture and urban design of the XIX-XX.th centuries is another field of studies.
Research Projects:
. Responsible for the Italian side of the three-years international research programme “Venezia y Granada: Orientalismo y Arquitectura” (2010-12) . Member of the board in the nationwide two-years research programme “Il museo della città” (“The urban museum”, 2011-12) led y Donatella Calabi. Member of the Steering Committee of the International Programme “Visualizing Venice” (since 2009 up to today). Co-responsible for the Swiss-Italian project “Pietro Nobile e il suo tempo” supported by the Swiss National Fund (since 2014 up to today)..
